Did you know that Rimini hosted a Jewish community in the past? And that the remains are still visible today? And that in the 16th century in Rimini used to live the Soncinos, a famous Jewish family who owned a printing press in a Rimini?
Come to Rimini to discover the little-known Jewish monuments and historical facts of the city. Departing from the Visitor Center, in the street Corso d’Augusto n. 235, you will get to theCity Museum,which contains an important Jewish inscription dating back to1510, witnessing the inauguration of a new synagogue. The tour proceeds throughvia Bonsi until Sant’Onofrio, where once there was a fenced Jewishghetto with three main gates! Then pass, finally, to the district of Santa Colomba, where there was one of the three synagogues in Rimini. Did you know that one of them was located in Piazza Cavour, where now there is the Old Fish Market?
Eventually, the tour will end at the restaurant Augusta, where you will see in the gardena shrine with an inscription in Jewish, probably coming from the Jewish cemetery which, according to a few scholars, was located beyond the Sant’Andrea gate.
